Is the site overlay report an accurate way to gauge how visitors are navigating through my website?

Site overlay isn’t a true representation of how people are navigating your site. The number of clicks in this report means that for the selected time period (by default this is set to 1 month) there X number of instances where someone went directly from the homepage to the named page. It’s not specific to the links themselves. Its specific to the pages the links reference. So if you have 4 links on the homepage that all went to a named page, they would all show X number of clicks.
