Is it bad practice to have 3 keywords that are broad match, phrase match and exact match? Or should it just be one (2/3/2009)?
It is a not a good practice to bid simultaneously on the same term in the Broad, Phrase, and Exact match settings. If the campaign is brand new, we do suggest keeping the 3 matching options of the term in the same group for easier analysis and adjustment. Otherwise, the broad match setting allows you to increase the reach of the word to build some traffic quickly and determine in part how competitive the term is. Simultaneously, you can keep an eye out to see how the phrase and exact match term is performing. This is based on monitoring click through rate, etc. to determine if a more targeted approach will yield better results. Once there is sufficient search and visitor volume for the term, look at the campaigns/clients key metrics to make a determination which matching option is most appropriate for that keyword. Adjust settings as necessary.
