New Version of Google Analytics Announced

Google is releasing a significant update to Google Analytics - the amount of new functionality is extraordinary. Not to mention some nice changes to the interface to clean things up.

New features include:
  • Motion Charts (a data visualization tool)
  • Advanced Segmentation
  • Custom Reporting
  • AdSense Integration
  • A data API
  • A new administrative interface
These new features cover 90% of the requests we get from all users, both big and small. In my opinion this release is game changer, especially for the enterprise market. However, not all of these features are public. The API and AdSense reports (I believe) are in private beta meaning your account must be authorized to use them. All other features are public! Woo Hoo!

Don't Waste Time Checking Your Emailer Links for Google Analytics Tracking

Newsletter Campaign Scan

Campaign tracking is an important best practice to follow when launching marketing campaigns. Any time you send out a newsletter to your customers, fans, etc., you should tag all the links in that mailer with Google Analytics campaign tracking variables so they will show up in your "Traffic Sources" report.

Each link must be tagged with three query string parameters: utm_source, utm_medium, and utm_campaign. There are also two optional parameters: utm_term and utm_content. Newsletter Campaign Scan scans your newsletter to determine which links are correctly tagged with the three required parameter and which links need to be fixed.
